Three Player Characters
The Updated Player Characters
The Player Character is the main protagonist of Star Stable Online and serves as the player's avatar in-game. They also are given their own unique name chosen by the player themselves from a drop-down list. It is now possible to change your name after choosing it on the first screen you encounter for Star Coins. The character may use emotes (or, more accurately described, animated gestures) to express their feelings, such as crying, laughing, waving, etc. Emotes can be used by either going to the emote drop-down list in chat, or saying, for example, /gestures in chat.
Personality[]
While most of the characters personality is left up to the player, they are shown to be fearless and brave, jumping into trouble to save others. They are reliable and willing to help those in need, no matter what. They appear to be easy to talk to as many confide in them about their troubles and issues, and the player does their best to assist.
Customization[]
Characters can be given a hairstyle and makeup from a small selection at the beginning of the game. The character's name, face shape, hair, skin color, and eye color can be chosen by the player. All of these features can be changed using the Appearance Change feature. The function is free for the first time, but any following changes cost 350 Star Coins. The player may also change their hair and makeup style at the different salons for a fee from 15 to 300 Star Coins.
Since the September 26th update of 2018, old hairstyles and makeup will no longer be discarded when the character purchases a new one, but instead sent to the vanity table in their home stable (also known as "MyStable"). The character may also buy new clothes from the shops around Jorvik with Star Coins or Jorvik Shillings. Alternatively, it's possible to get new clothes from redeem codes.
As of the player character overhaul on June 20th, 2023, the customization options have been updated and expanded to include more body types and face options, as well as the ability to select different eyebrow types (and colors) and to remove the player characters' makeup entirely. The star coin costs for appearance alterations were also updated. For example, smaller changes such as eye color and eyebrow options will cost 30 Star Coins, and bigger changes like the body type and skin color will cost 60 Star Coins, for a total of 90 Star Coins.
Trivia[]
- On November 1st, 2017, the player characters received a small update. Most notably, characters had shorter necks, and new, more realistic animations.
- While non-playable characters in game seem to recognize that the player character has spoken, the player character generally does not have any dialogue, with a few exceptions. It is likely this is so that the player character's replies can be up to interpretation.
- While players can technically only play as girls, most of the dialogue in-game gives the player gender-neutral pronouns (or avoids using a pronoun by just referring to the player by name).
- The player's character can be customized to look more androgynous or have less inherently feminine traits such as masculine-sounding names, masculine hair, neutral makeup, and clothing that makes the player's breasts, waist, and hips less defined.
- It was announced in 2021 that Star Stable would be updating the player characters.
- In 2022, a set of concept art was released. In these concepts:
- There are a wide range of body types to choose from.
- There are now many more skin tone and face options to choose from.
- The hair and outfits are updated to fit the style of the new models.
- Curly hair is now an option for players.
- Star Stable announced on the 15th of August that they would be launching a closed beta in September 2022 for select players to try out the new player characters.
- Star Stable had previously stated that they were going to release a second closed beta test, but instead decided to work on the new player character models so that they could release them to the public.
- The character overhaul update was released on June 20th, 2023.
